Diversity of Staphylococcus hyicus Isolates from Swine [Eastern Canada, 2023]

Staphylococcus hyicus is the causative agent of exudative epidermitis in suckling and weaned piglets, a disease that poses significant concerns for animal health and welfare in swine production. Despite its impact, S. hyicus remains understudied, with limited recent data on Canadian strains. In this study, we characterize S. hyicus isolates from swine in Eastern Canada, providing insights into their genetic diversity. Our analysis includes PCR genotyping and genomic data, contributing valuable information on strain variation and potential virulence factors.
