The goal of this study is to report assembly and annotation of the complete nucleotide sequence of Viburnum carlesii Hemsl chloroplast genome. The size of the V. carlesii Hemsl chloroplast genome is 158,377 bp in length, including a pair of inverted repeat regions (26,531 bp), a large single copy region (87,074 bp) and a small single copy region (18,241 bp). The overall GC content in this genome is 38.1%. The complete chloroplast genome of V. carlesii Hemsl contains 129 functional genes, with 84 protein-coding genes, four pairs of rRNA genes and 37 tRNA genes. The phylogenetic reconstruction using 17 Adoxaceae species demonstrated that V. carlesii Hemsl is closely related to Viburnum burejaeticum. The study of complete chloroplast genome sequence has provided useful information for the phylogenetic position of V. carlesii Hemsl and futher study of Viburnum species.
