The project goal is to investigate arsenic transformation pathways in gastrointestinal tract microbes. The arsenate-respiring Citrobacter sp., strain TSA-1, was isolated from the hindgut of a termite. Analysis of the TSA-1 genome revealed the lack of genes encoding for the ArrA-type arsenate respiratory reductase. Investigating this strain may lead to the identification of a new genetic pathway for arsenate respiration in GI tract microbiomes.
