Data set on Effects of endogenous biosurfactants dietary supplementation on performance, immunity and carcass characteristics in finishing Cobb 500 broilers

When gut health is compromised, digestion and assimilation suffer, resulting in decreased feed utilisation, economic loss and increased susceptibility to pathogens. Farmers usually the counter the reduced performance by use of veterinary drugs, some of which find their way into the various products emanating from the poultry enterprises. These residual drugs pose a serious threat to human health. Each microorganism secretes metabolites which they use to suppress others in their environment such that they will have an advantage over the resources available. It therefore, follows that when animals fall sick, these metabolites would have been overpowered by those being released by pathogenic microbes. It therefore makes sense to explore what kind of metabolites do these beneficial microbes release and test their effects on common pathogenic microbes. If results are positive, then they can be evaluated in-vivo for potential application as feed additives in the feed industry. The current data is from a study which explored the impacts of biosurfactants, which are bacterial metabolites with beneficial immune properties, on Cobb 500 broiler breed in various performance aspects which include growth rate, carcass and cooking quality and attributes of various selected internal organs. The immune properties of the biosurfactant treated broilers is very interesting.
