Value Addition to Natural Resources and Minerals in Sri Lanka: A Science-for-Policy View

Sri Lanka, a nation rich in natural resources and minerals, has yet to fully exploit its minerals. There are enormous untapped opportunities for the mineral industry's contribution to boosting the economy. The objective of this paper is to examine the technical report (TR) recommendations proposed at the Ninth Biennial Conference on Science and Technology of Sri Lanka (BICOST) from the perspective of science for policy. TRs provide comprehensive analyses of the local mineral sector and propose a range of recommendations for value addition, high quality, and purity of minerals, as well as the need for scientific data from chemical analysis to take advantage of the industry on the island toward a more value-added, sustainable economy.

斯里兰卡，一个自然资源与矿产资源丰富的国家，尚未充分挖掘其矿产资源。矿物产业在推动经济提升方面蕴藏着巨大的潜在机遇。本论文旨在从科学政策的角度审视第九届斯里兰卡科学与技术年度会议（BICOST）提出的（TR）技术报告建议。技术报告对当地矿物行业进行了全面分析，并就增值、高品质和纯度等方面提出了多种建议，同时强调从化学分析中获得科学数据以充分利用岛上产业，实现向更具增值和可持续性的经济转型。
