VPRS 2151 Minute Books (Microform Copy of VPRS 9480)

This series comprises microfilm and aperture card copies of Minute Books of the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission (VA 723). The original Minute Books are in VPRS 9480 Minute Books. The micrographic copies were made from 1943 until 1977. The original books, of which these are copies, were created from 1906 till 1976. Although minute books continued to be created until the agencys abolition in 1984, it appears that the later books were not microfilmed.The minutes recorded the meetings of the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission when it met under the Water Act 1905 (5 Edw VII, No.2016). Although the minutes covered a wide range of policy, operational and administrative matters, they were not detailed. The level of detail in the minutes was determined by the Commission at its first meeting, on 14 and 15 May 1906. That meeting resolved that the minutes would record only business definitely transacted and decisions arrived at, but not the discussions leading thereto.Another resolution at the same meeting determined the nature of the matters that would come before the Commission and so be recorded in the minutes. The meeting resolved that the Chairman would have supervision of the Commissions two branches, Engineering and Finance, subject to the Commission being consulted on all questions of importance, that affect matters of public policy, or that would create precedents, and the Commission may, at any time, exercise the right to decide any question.
