Traces of Mining, with a Focus on Uranium, and Radon Spa Practices as Documented in Public Spaces and Memory Institutions in the Ore Mountains (Jáchymov, Annaberg-Buchholz, Aue-Bad Schlema)

This dataset documents traces of mining activities – especially uranium mining and the spa use of radon water – in public spaces and memory institutions within the UNESCO cross-border mining region Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří (Ore Mountains). It covers selected sites in Annaberg-Buchholz, Aue-Bad Schlema, Zwickau (Germany), and Jáchymov (Czech Republic). The data were collected during the 2025 summer tourist season and consist of original photographs and scans of selected tourist and institutional materials. The dataset provides source material for interdisciplinary research on mining heritage, spa culture, environmental histories, memory cultures, transformations of post-mining regions, and post-extractive tourism.
