ATAC-seq in Brugia malayi adults containing endosymbiotic Wolbachia

Here, we identified accessible DNA (lacking histones) in Brugia malayi adult males and females. We performed ATAC-sequencing to identify the open chromatin and used standard gDNA sequencing as a control. We found an enrichment of Wolbachia sequences in the ATAC-seq libraries and performed de novo assembly of the bacterial genome. In this study, we concluded that ATAC-seq can be used as a bacterial sequence enrichment strategy for genome assembly of endosymbionts that live within eukaryotic tissues.
