The brain are the major oxygen consuming organs and thus vulnerable to injury due to hypoxia or insufficient blood perfusion. Genes and metabolites alterations in brain might be adaptive to such condition and thus the neurons are most affected cell types in brain, but the molecular mechanisms lack simultaneous evidence. In the study, we employed an integrated analysis from RNA-sequencing based transcriptomics and LC-MS based metabolomics to simultaneously explore the potential altered differentially expressed genes and metabolites of primary cortical neurons under severe hypoxic condition (0.1% Oxygen) in short episodes (~2hr).
