VPRS 18438 Rights of Interment and Interment Register

This series comprises the register of interments (burials) for Creswick Cemetery (VA 5208) and is divided into three sections. The first section (yellow pages) comprises details of the holder of the right to interment and their rights of interment plan and is recorded under the heading Rights of Interment Register. This section contains the following information: - right of interment number/ID - details of the holder of the right of interment: full name, address, contact number - details of the right of interment: date granted, fee paid, whether for bodily or cremated remains - details concerning cremations: period of the original right, whether in perpetuity, date of renewal or conversion, period of renewal, conditions (if any) - details of the place of interment to which the right relates: type (grave, vault, crypt, niche), location (including section, row and grave number or other unique identifier) if allocated - transfer, surrender and cancellation of the right of interment: date, full name of person transferring/surrendering, for transfers only: full name of person acquiring the right, method of transfer, amount paid (if any). The second section (white pages) relates to actual burials and is recorded under the heading, Interment Register. The information recorded includes: - right of interment number/ID - details of the deceased: full name, last address, date of birth, date of death - details of the interment: date of interment, whether bodily or cremated remains, type of place of interment (grave, vault, crypt, niche), location (including section, row and grave number, or other unique identifier), bodily remains only: number of interments excavated in order to accommodate (if applicable), interments to date, funeral director (company name) - exhumation: date and details of disposal of remains - removal of cremated remains after 25 year right of interment: date and details of disposal of remains. The third section (green pages) records foetal burials, under the heading Interment Register. This final section was never used by the agency and remains blank. Researchers should be aware that these records came into use in 2005 and were meant to replace the Register of Burials, however, the Secretary of the Creswick Cemetery Trust continued to copy information from these records into the Register of Burials (VPRS 18436). However, as at August 2017, records from 2005 onwards have not been transferred to PROV and are still in the custody of Creswick Cemetery (VA 5208).
