The Association between Body Shaming and Mental Health among Young Adults in Bangladesh: Exploring the Mediating Role of Self-esteem

The main objective of our study is to expore the association between body shaming and mental health of yound adults, and the underlying mechanism that mediate the effects of body shaming on mental health. Morover, increase the awarness of the effects of body shaming. In places where body shaming is more prevalent, especially in educational institutions, the educational counsellor/psychologist can utilize the findings of this study to organize seminars on the prevalence and effects of body shaming, thereby raising awareness among students and teachers. Furthermore, to arrange training for them to improve self-esteem so that those who are victims of body shaming can cope with this stressful situation. A convenient sample of 460 young adults (54% women, 45% men) participated in the study. The dataset was collected using a structured questionnaire administered to participants. Respondents completed the survey in person, and their answers were recorded anonymously. Data were gathered between March and April.
