The research project was a survey of the attitudes of all Members of Parliament (MPs) at Westminster to European integration. The researchers wished to refine their existing hypothesis that the divisions so apparent on Europe in the main British political parties, are most pronounced along 'fault-lines' defined by disagreements over the importance of either maintaining national sovereignty, or accepting an increasing interdependence with the European Union `nation states'.
