Next-generation (Generation IV) nuclear reactors, like the Molten Salt Reactor (MSR) and the Lead-cooled Fast Reactor (LFR) are investigated for energy production and closure of the nuclear fuel cycle. High-resolution high-temperature X-ray diffraction studies are proposed in order to solve crystallographic questions relevant to nuclear fuel and corrosion behaviour, as well as determine thermal expansion coefficients up to high temperatures.
