One casual agents of citrus bacterial canker is Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri (Xci). Xci appears to be a polymorphic type of the disease, containing three different pathotype: A, A* and Aw. Strains belonging to pathotype A show a broad-host range and affect most commercial citrus varieties. In contrast, A* and Aw strains are narrow-host range pathotypes. In databases, the complete genome sequences are available for X. citri subsp. citri strain 306 (XccA306), a type A (Asiatic) strain, and X. citri subsp. citri strain Aw12879 (Xcaw12879), a type Aw strain (Wellington strain). To encompass our knowledge on Xci genomes diversity and differences, we decided to sequence an Iranian strain, NIGEB-88. This genome draft of X. citri subsp. citri strain NIGEB-88, will provide a basis to study differences in putative differences in gene contents, especially those contributed in pathogenecity and virulence, host determination, and other genetic features involved in Xci genome diversity.
