2013 Natural England (NE) Portsmouth Harbour SPA/SSSI Intertidal Mudflat Condition Assessment

Grab sample survey; biotope classification aerial survey. Marine Ecological Surveys Limited (MESL) was commissioned by Natural England to conduct an intertidal survey across the Portsmouth Harbour Special Protection Area (SPA) and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The survey undertaken by MESL in September 2013 involved Phase 1 biotope mapping of intertidal mud and sand flat habitats found within the harbour and Phase II intertidal core sampling at 28 stations. The purpose of the survey was to gather information which will provide a baseline dataset of the littoral sediment features of Portsmouth Harbour SPA/SSSI, and thus a dataset to inform future condition monitoring of the site.
