These two volumes are registers of discharges, removals and deaths relating to patients at Morisset Hospital for the Insane, later known as Morisset Mental Hospital and Morisset Hospital.The registers have columns for the recording of the following information relating to patients: date of death, discharge or removal; date of last admission; number in register of patients; name in full; recovered, relieved, not improved or died; assigned cause of death; and age at death. An Observations column provides such details as where transferred to, if recovered whilst on leave (WOL), the applicable Section of the relevant Lunacy or Mental Health Act, and contains doctors’ signatures as required.One volume relates specifically to criminal patients, later referred to as patients, or people, under detention (PUD). In this volume the patients’ register numbers are prefixed with “Cr” or “C” until 14 July 1960 after which time the prefix “PUD” is used. The other, larger, register contains mainly general patients (e.g. temporary, voluntary, inebriate, continuous treatment) but many of the criminal patients that appear in the other volume are also listed.Each register is arranged chronologically by date of death, discharge or removal.
