Ponta do Ouro zambezi shark tracking

This is the OBIS extraction of the Ocean Tracking Network and South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB) Ponta do Ouro zambezi shark tracking, consisting of the release tagging metadata, i.e. the location and date when the tagged animal was released, and summarized detection events of tagged individuals.

Quantifying the movement behaviour of these large predatory sharks is important for understanding the associated spatial and temporal scales over which these sharks can influence marine communities. Elucidating the role of these top predatory sharks in marine communities is also becoming increasingly important as top marine predatory populations are continually under threat from overexploitation. In this study, passive acoustic telemetry will be used to investigate the habitat use and connectivity of bull sharks and tiger sharks between southern Mozambique and South Africa.
