In this experiment, six sheep were sampled for rumen fluid immediately after slaughter. Rumen fluid from each animal was divided into experimental and control samples, with experimental samples receiving a spike of the explosive compound RDX. Samples were taken and 16S amplified at 5, 60, and 150m time points. Primary objective of this experiment was to determine if there were any significant shifts in the rumen bacterial population as a result of RDX challenge, and whether any bacteria could be implicated in RDX degradation.
