Coal power capacity in the U.S. by state 2024

Texas has the greatest coal power generating capacity of any U.S. state. As of August 2024, Texan utility-scale coal power stations had a combined net summer capacity of around 16.6 gigawatts. That was more than three gigawatts more than coal power plants in Indiana, with the Midwestern state ranking second.
