Impact of dietary insect meals and fractions on gut microbiota in Atlantic salmon

In this project, the composition, diversity and predicted metabolic capacity of gut microbiota in Atlantic salmon pre-smolts were investigated when fed with diets containing black soldier fly insect larvae meals (full-fat, defatted and de-chitinized meals) or fractions (oil and exoskeleton) for eight weeks. The study provides important information to determine how the black soldier fly larvae should be processed to optimize its use in diets for Atlantic salmon by positively modulating the gut microbiota.
