Characterize and evaluate the response of xylophagous and chromogenic fungi to wood preservatives.Chromogenic/xylophagous fungi produce aesthetic defects and negative modifications in the mechanical properties of wood, respectively. They are present in sawmills and businesses established in communities where the utilization of wood is a primary source of economic income. Despite the existence of preservative substances and strategies for managing unwanted fungal species, the lack of knowledge about the causal agents, along with the consequent nonspecific treatment, does not solve the problems in all cases. Not to mention that the products used carry health and ecological issues. The correct identification of the etiological agents and the phylogenetic description will increase the database of these fungi located in the region with unexplored biotechnological potential; in addition to the aforementioned, the evaluation of resistance and its specific response to the preservatives used in different concentrations by these generates useful information for the management of informed and conscious public policies and, to the extent possible, a collection of fungal species of interest by these.
