Stream insect richness, catchment properties, land use and bioclimatic values for 80 streams in China, collected between November 2006 and October 2011. Explanations of each variable can be found in the last column of the csv. Detailed biological sampling methods and GIS data extraction methods can be found in the associated publication (link provided upon acceptance). Bioclimatic variables with a spatial resolution of 30 arc-seconds (approximately 1 km) were extracted for each site from the Worldclim database (http://www.worldclim.org; accessed 25 March 2014; Hijmans RJ, Cameron SE, Parra JL, Jones PG, Jarvis A (2005) Very high resolution interpolated climate surfaces for global land areas. International Journal of Climatology 25: 1965–1978). Global Aridity Index (AI) and Global Potential Evapo-Transpiration (PET) data were extracted in the same manner (CGIAR Consortium for Spatial Information; http://www.csi.cgiar.org; Zomer RJ, Trabucco A, Bossio DA, Verchot L V (2008) Climate change mitigation: A spatial analysis of global land suitability for clean development mechanism afforestation and reforestation. Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment 126: 67–80). Land cover data (Global Land cover database; http://bioval.jrc.ec.europa.eu/products/glc2000/products.php, accessed 16 August 2013) was extracted from the entire upstream catchment of each site.
