The esophageal area was subjected to a single dose of 0, 25 or 35 Gy irradiation at the rate of 4 Gy/min by using a Biological X-ray irradiator PXi-225. In the control group(n = 3), the rats were subjected to mock irradiation. The body was covered outside the irradiated area with lead skin both for experimental group and control group. Seven days after irradiation, the rats were sacrificed and the esophageal tissues were collectedfor analysis.
