This study seeks to characterize iron and nickel superoxide dismutases (SODs), key enzymes in mitigating oxidative stress and influencing biological metal requirements, in the marine copiotroph Alteromonas macleodii ATCC27126. Strains with targeted gene knockouts of each SOD were generated and transcriptionally profiled under different environmental conditions.
