Dataset for: Field Edges Support Greater Abundance and Diversity of Ground-Nesting Aculeate Wasps Across Tillage Systems in the Southeastern United States

Datafiles reflect the abundance of aculeate wasp species among four experimental treatment groups. I. Dataset organization The dataset contains 3 files: File 1: Filename: Wasp_Dataset_MF Filetype: .CSV Brief Description: Data values reflect the abundance of both male and female wasps caught per soil emergence trap during each sampling round. File 2: Filename: Wasp_Dataset_F Filetype: .CSV Brief Description: Data values reflect the abundance of female wasps caught per soil emergence trap during each sampling round. File 3: Filename: Wasp_Dataset_M Filetype: .CSV Brief Description: Data values reflect the abundance of male wasps caught per soil emergence trap during each sampling round. II. Data file descriptions The following columns make up the first 6 columns among all datafiles. Below are descriptions and relevant information regarding each column type: Year (Column 1) = The year in which trap deployment occurred. Values = 2021, 2022 Month (Column 2) = The month of the year in which soil emergence trap was deployed. values range from 3 - 11 and correspond the order of month in a year. For example: Month = 3 = March. Round (Column 3) = Uniquely designates weeklong sampling events. Values range from 1 - 54 Treatment (Column 4) = Describes one of four treatment types assigned to each Plot. Conventional = Conventional Tillage Reduced = Reduced Tillage Conservation = Conservation Tillage Field Edge Plot (Column 5) = Unique identifier for each experimental plot. Plot IDs combine a row prefix and a plot number. Rows are designated by prefixes 1–4, and plots within each row are numbered 1–24. For example, the 8th plot in row 2 is recorded as 208. Row_Abundance (Column 6) = Total wasp abundance per soil emergence trap deployment, calculated as the sum of all values across the species columns. These species columns represent the abundances of individual species. Depending on the dataset, this total may reflect combined male and female abundance or the abundance of only one sex (see Dataset Organization above). Species Columns (Columns 7–69 in the male + female and female-only data files; Columns 7–17 in the male-only data files) = Represent the abundance of individual wasp species collected per soil emergence trap deployment. The number of species columns in each dataset corresponds to the number of species detected. Because datasets differ in whether they include males only, females only, or both sexes, the number of species columns varies among data files. For example: the male-only dataset contains fewer species columns because males were collected from only 10 species. In contrast, the combined dataset that includes both males and females contains 69 species columns, representing the 69 aculeate wasp species collected overall.
