Ketogulonicigenium vulgare is an industrial strain used in the vitamin C manufacture, and characterized by the efficient production of 2-KGA from L-sorbose. Here, the genome of a new strain which showed rapid growth characteristics and 2-KGA synthesizing ability, was highly quality sequenced and annotated. Compared with the finished genome of K. vulgare Y25 and WSH-001, strain SPU B805 lacks the genes of ED pathway in organism, it reveals that strain SPU B805 exclusively utilizes the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) for carrying out hexose catabolism.
