A highly arsenic resistant strain of Citrobacter youngae (IITK SM2) was isolated from arsenic polluted groundwater in Uttar Pradesh, Kanpur, India. There are three arsenate reductases identified in the genome of this strain. ArsC1 is the smaller protein containing 119 aa, whereas ArsC2 and ArsC3 contain 141 aa each. These proteins were biochemically characterized to evaluate the arsenate-reductase activity.
