Strongylocentrotus purpuratus Genomic Resources. Strongylocentrotus purpuratus

Purple sea urchins (Strongylocentrotus purpuratus) are the dominant consumer of kelp. Population explosions of urchins can decimate entire kelp forest ecosystems, transforming them into �urchin barrens.� Work on population genomics of S. purpuratus has shown high levels of connectivity, though a few genomic regions exhibit signals of adaptation to local pH conditions. These data have been produced as part of the CCGP. Sequencing was conducted with HiFi Pacific Biosciences long reads at UCDavis Genome Core, Dovetail's OmniC libraries, and Illumina sequencing at UCBerkeley QB3 Genomics Core.
