Results of molecular marker-assisted screening of the University of Guelph dry bean germplasm for disease resistance (2024-2025)

This project aimed to develop high-throughput, cost-effective molecular marker assays for disease resistance and quality traits. While this objective is ongoing, using allele-specific PCR-based genotyping technologies [PACE (PCR Allele Competitive Extension) and KASP (Kompetitive Allele Specific PCR)] markers and other diagnostic molecular tools for screening represents a significant step forward in assay implementation. These tools allowed for the efficient genotyping of a large set of breeding lines and cultivars, contributing directly to this objective.
