Evaluation of scientific research on feminism in Mexico: 2,121 documents

An analysis of 2,121 academic articles on feminism in Mexico published between 2000 and 2022. These articles represent 92.38% of Mexican scholarly output on feminism that is not indexed in mainstream databases (Scopus and Web of Science) but rather in regional and local journals and repositories—often referred to as "peripheral science." The selection was based on criteria regarding relevance, alignment with the field of study, time period, Mexican authorship, and adherence to academic standards; the articles originated from 53 research centers and institutes, universities, and institutional repositories across the country. Keyword analysis reveals that the most frequent topics are: feminism, women, gender, Mexico, violence against women, education, politics, history, feminist methodology, feminist history, gender-based violence, women's rights, family, universities, gender stereotypes, society, higher education, femicide, women's empowerment, communication, labor, gender perspective, activism, culture, sexuality, masculinity, public policy, Latin America, equality, and motherhood. The articles demonstrate great thematic and methodological diversity, addressing feminism from interdisciplinary perspectives: social sciences, humanities, psychology, medicine, economics, law, education, and public policy.
