Electric Utility Service Areas, Minnesota, January 2026

The purpose of the project was to convert existing electric utility service area boundaries from paper to digital format in order to provide a statewide view of the service areas. Public Utility Commission eDocket filings are now used to maintain this dataset. Other goals and objectives: 1. Create a consistent, state-wide GIS dataset of EUSA, as vetted by the utilities 2. Achieve a positional accuracy of 1:24,000 (+/- 60 feet) 3. Identify (and eventually resolve) service area boundary issues 4. Create a cost-effective process for tracking and updates 5. Make data easily accessible
