VPRS 15810 Register of Burials

All Victorian Cemeteries Acts required cemeteries to keep registers of burials and alphabetical indexes to enable searching of the registers.This series of burial certificates comprises the register of burials for the Oakleigh General Cemetery. Each certificate also served as a receipt for burial services provided by the undertaker.The format of the register appears to have been prescribed in a schedule to regulations, however this is subject to research.Information recorded for each burial comprised:* the name, age, occupation, address and denomination of the deceased and the supposed cause of death* the date and other information about the funeral* the number and other information about the grave site* the signature of the undertaker* the cost.
