Dataset Description Abstract The data provided are continuous series of soil water content over 6 hillslope transects. Each transect is made of 8 pairs of probes (except for Valescure transect A including 10 pairs of probes) along the hillslope. The probes are between 20 and 45 cm deep, separated by a distance varying between 5 and 15 m. Time steps are 15 minutes. Valescure and Tourgeuille are experimental watersheds of the Cevennes Vivarais hydrometeorogical observatory (OHM-CV) where extensive hydrological and meteorological data were collected before and during the Floodscale project (available in the Hymex database). The transects have different geological substrate, orientation or altitude. Purpose The dataset was produced to understand the water content variability, in time and space, at the hillslope scale. Moreover, the data were used in order to grab the main hydrodynamical properties of the soils, such as hydraulic conductivity and water retention, by using inverse modeling from the water contents (Braud et al., 2016). The continuous series can also help in estimating the evapotranspiration processes during long dry periods.
