E. coli 453 is a shigatoxin producing Escherichia coli (STEC) strain isolated from a deer faecal sample. It harbours a subAB allele that cannot be typed using the current subAB PCR subtyping scheme. The genome of this strain was sequenced to allow precise delineation of the subAB locus genetic location and design of PCR primers for subtyping the subAB variants harboured in such STEC strains.
