The aerobic, gram-negative bacterium Burkholderia sordidicola S170 of the family Burkholderiaceae (Betaproteobacteria) was isolated from a coniferous acidic forest soil in Central Europe. In these soils, Burkholderia species are key players in the accumulation of carbon from cellulose decomposition. The draft genome sequence of Burkholderia sordidicola S170 has been stablished and its genetic basis indicate the presence of relevant features for plant growth promotion, biological control of plant diseases and green remediation technologies.
