This study investigates Kyrgyzstani university students' perceptions of suicide risk among peers and their likelihood to intervene. The research aims to identify gaps in knowledge or skills related to suicide prevention and potential areas for intervention and develop a support system. The study recruited 239 university students from four Kyrgyzstani universities and used a five-step Bystander Intervention (BSI) Model. The results showed a high level of awareness of suicide as a serious problem in Kyrgyzstan, with most students aware of someone who has attempted or died by suicide. However, there is a need for improvement in recognizing manipulative behaviours and the gap between perceived knowledge and the actual ability to identify specific signs. Most students believe in the power of individual actions to prevent suicide, but may lack the specific knowledge and confidence to take concrete steps. Further education and training on suicide prevention and intervention are needed.
