Primula vulgaris genome project paired-end sequencing reads

Primula vulgaris (the common primrose) exhibits heterostyly; plants produce pin or thrum flowers, with anthers and stigma at reciprocal heights. Darwin resolved that this arrangement promotes insect-mediated cross-pollination; later studies revealed control by a gene cluster known as the S (Style length) locus. We undertook genomic analyses including assembly of the P. vulgaris genome to facilitate characterization of the S locus, and cross-species studies.
