The Vehicle Temperature Observation Dataset was collected in collaboration between the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading (UK) and the UK Meteorological Office (Met Office), using built-in temperature sensors installed on vehicles. This dataset contains 67,959 observation records, with data transmitted to participants' smartphones via on-board diagnostic (OBD) equipment on the vehicles before being uploaded to the Met Office's servers. The core goal of this dataset is to provide high spatiotemporal resolution observational data for numerical weather prediction (NWP), especially for forecasts at the convection-allowing scale. Its application scenarios include improving the accuracy of road weather models and forecasting severe road weather conditions, as well as enhancing forecast impact factors in regions with sparse observational coverage.
