This dataset accompanies Kemp et al 2009, “Timing and magnitude of recent accelerated sea-level rise (North Carolina, United States)”. It consists of soil core profile information from two salt marsh sites located in the Albemarle-Pamlico estuarine system on the coast of North Carolina, USA. Organic matter content and dry bulk density was measured for each core to assess the influence of compaction. At each site a core was analyzed using a number of dating methods including accelerator mass spectrometry, radiocarbon dating, Pb210, Cs137, and a pollen chronohorizon to develop an age depth model in order to reconstruct relative sea level rise over time.

本数据集伴随Kemp等人在2009年发表的论文《近年来加速的海平面上升的时间与幅度(美国北卡罗来纳州)》而来。该数据集包含了位于美国北卡罗来纳州海岸阿尔伯马尔-帕姆利科河口系统中的两个盐沼遗址的土壤芯剖面信息。对于每个土壤芯,均测量了有机质含量和干燥体积密度,以评估压实作用的影响。在每个遗址,通过加速质量光谱法、放射性碳测年法、Pb210、Cs137以及花粉年代学方法等众多测年技术对土壤芯进行分析,构建了年龄深度模型,从而重建了随时间推移的相对海平面上升情况。
