Area in hectares of ZNIEFF per canton: year 2015

The inventory of natural heritage through the creation of Natural Areas of Ecological, Fauna and Floral Interest (ZNIEFF) allows the identification and description of areas with strong biological capacities and good conservation status. These areas are divided into two types: the so-called Type 1 areas encompassing areas of great biological or ecological interest and the Type 2 areas corresponding to large, rich and unmodified natural areas with significant biological potential. The inventory was first carried out in the 1980s and has been updated since 2002. In 2010, it was validated by the Regional Scientific Council for Natural Heritage (CSRPN), then at national level by the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN) in 2011. The resulting data are still in force. The data table shows, on the one hand, the surfaces of ZNIEFF of one type in the strict sense and, on the other hand, the overlapping surfaces of ZNIEFF of different types.
