Mammalian Peptidoglycan Recognition Proteins (PGRPs or PGLYRPs) kill bacteria through induction of synergistic oxidative, thiol, and metal stress in bacteria. This study was performed to identify Bacillus subtilis mutants with increased or decreased survival following 3-hr exposure of a Tn insertion library of B. subtilis 168 to bactericidal or sub-bactericidal concentrations of human peptidoglycan recognition protein-4 (PGLYRP4), or to a control protein (bovine serum albumin).
