Royal City of Sais

Archaeology and geological survey at the site of Sais (Sa el Hagar) in the north of Egypt. The site of Sais (Sa el Hagar) in northern Egypt was the ancient capital of Egypt in the 7th-6th century BCE and has been settled since Neolithic times around 6000 years BP. Excavations at the site since 1999 by a Durham University/Egypt Exploration Society/Ministry of Antiquities mission have found evidence of different phases of the site's history. The work has been carried out in conjunction with the geoarchaeological survey consisting of over 250 drill augers at and in the area around the site.
