Prospective, randomized controlled trial of a new tooth sectioning method for extraction of horizontally impacted mandibular third molars with large root bifurcations: Comparison with conventional methods

A randomized, single-blind, prospective trial was performed in patients with horizontally impacted M3M with large root bifurcation on panoramic radiographs. The patients were divided into two groups by balanced randomization [1:1]: the new method group (test group), in which M3M was sectioned between the distal root and the remainder of the tooth at the point of root bifurcation; and the conventional method group (control group), in which M3M was sectioned between the crown and the root at the cementoenamel junction (CEJ).
