Single cell RNA-seq of thickened dura matter after ischemia

The meninges are membranous structures composed of the dura, arachnoid, and pia maters. The primary role of the meninges is to protect the brain from mechanical damage. Currently, the meninges are also regarded as an immune organ that can interact with brain parenchyma. We found that dura mater was markedly thickened after brain ischemia; however, its functional significance is unknown. To understand the significance, identification of cell composition and gene expression pattern is necessary. In this study, we dispersed the thickened dura, collected live cells, and performed single cell RNA-seq. This work may lead to new therapy for brain ischemia.
