资源简介:
Bacterial bloodstream infections form a large threat to global health, which is even further complicated by increased emergence of antibiotic resistance among bacterial pathogens. In Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), Salmonella Typhimurium is one of the most prevalent pathogens causing bloodstream infections, especially in children under five. Previous work by Okoro et al. (Nature Genetics, 2012) elucidated that the majority of invasive Salmonella Typhimurium in SSA make up two related phylogenetic lineages. Lineage II emerged ~40 years ago and has clonally replaced lineage I. Okoro et al. has sequenced the genomes of 129 invasive Salmonella Typhimurium isolates from SSA. We want to elaborate further on the study of Okoro et al. and generate an up-to-date view on the spread and evolution of invasive Salmonella Typhimurium in SSA. We will include strains from additional study sites and countries.
