Supplementary data and materials for "Algorithmic Legal Hegemony in AI Translation: Greek Criminal Law between Continental and Common Law Ontologies"

This deposit contains the coded data, the coding instruments and the reproduction script for a study of how three large language models render Greek criminal-law concepts into German. Fifty concepts were extracted from a corpus of seventy publicly accessible Greek criminal-law texts, comprising forty judgments of the Areios Pagos and thirty provisions of the Greek Penal Code, covering the period from 2019 to 2025. Each concept was assigned an expert German target rendering, fixed before any output was generated, and an incongruence type recording its relation to the nearest common-law counterpart. Each concept was then translated by GPT-4, Claude 4.5 Opus and Gemini 3.1 Pro under three prompt conditions, giving 450 outputs in a fully crossed design. Every output was coded independently by two annotators on three binary variables: anglicization, conceptual simplification and frame substitution. Both the independent codings and the resolved values are deposited, so the reliability coefficients can be recomputed rather than taken on trust. The expert condition supplied the consolidated German Criminal Code alongside the instruction, and the deposited materials record this, since the rates observed under that condition are rates for the instruction and the supplied text together. The deposit comprises the coding workbook, the analysis dataset, the reproduction script with its full output, the fifty concepts with their targets, and the seventy source texts identified individually. Complete model translations are not included.
