Municipal and Private Child-Minding Facilities, 1975

The purpose of this survey, which the Danish National Institute of Social Research commenced in 1975, is to examine the wishes of families with small children as regards day-care centres and muni- cipal day-care, the use of other child-minding facilities and the satisfaction of the families with the child-minding facility they use. The survey comprises children at day-care centres, children in municipal and private day-care, and children who are minded by their parents in the home. Main emphasis has been put on analysing the connections between available child-minding facilities, the wishes of the parents as regards public child-minding, the social and occupational status of the families and the coverage degree of public child-minding in the municipality. It should be noted that the survey is not nationally representative in the selection of municipalities as the municipalities were selected in such a way that the survey comprises some municipalities with a high and some with a low coverage percentage. Furthermore, the muni- cipalities have different degrees of urbanization. However, the random sample is nationally representative of the majority of 0 to 5-year-olds
