NRS-20955 | Schools change of name register

This series comprises one volume which records changes to the names of government schools in New South Wales.The register is arranged in alphabetical order and provides the name of the school, date of the name change, previous or new name, and in many cases a related correspondence number.The records were created by the Department of Education's Sites Branch, later Properties Division. (1)The original content of this hand written volume covers name changes from around October 1883 to 1973. There may have been name changes earlier than those recorded from October 1883 but only the name change for Darkwater Creek in 1872 is included in this volume. Some of the changes made prior to October 1883 may relate to names changed between an application being made for a school and the commencement of the school (such as an application for Duck Creek being altered to Alstonville).  This information was recorded in front of the volume by Jim Fletcher, of the Department of Education's History Unit (Agency 1184) on 7 January 1974. A subsequentl note from1978 explains that annotation made to the book regarding school name changes from earlier than 1883 were transcribed from two earlier registers that are no longer extant. These late annotations are easily identifiable as the original text has been written in black ink and is of a similar style through out the register whereas the annotations were made with blue and red ball point pen, in some cases pencil. and are in various hand writing styles.  Endnote1.
