资源简介:
The choice of the proper polymer composition by phase behavior studies at high salinity and temperature is expected to facilitate rapid screening of potential candidates for colloidal stabilization. With magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (IO NPs) as our metal oxide colloid, we tested a series of sulfonated random and block copolymers. A series of sulfonated random and block copolymers were adsorbed on the surface of ∼100 nm iron oxide (IO) nanoparticles (NPs) to provide colloidal stability in extremely concentrated brine composed of 8% wt NaCl + 2% wt CaCl2 (API brine; 1.4 M NaCl + 0.2 M CaCl2) at 90 °C. We used a Ca2+-mediated adsorption of anionic acrylic acid-containing sulfonated polymers to preform citrate-stabilized IO nanoclusters, to investigate a large number of polymer coatings. This dataset reports results of Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), zeta potential, and thermogravimetric analysis used to characterize iron oxide nanoparticles before and after coating at ambient and elevated temperatures. DLS was used to measure hydrodynamic diameter of poly(2-methyl-2-acrylamidopropanesulfonate-co-acrylic acid) (poly(AMPS-co-AA))copolymers. Thermogravimetric analysis was performed to quantify organic content. Percent weight organics measurements are reported with [Ca^2+]/[COO^-]poly molar ratio for high citrate and low citrate iron oxide particles. DLS was also used to measure hydrodynamic diameter distribution of citrate coated iron oxides and (poly(AMPS-co-AA) coated iron oxides in both deionized water and American Petroleum Institute brine. Electrophoretic mobility of (poly(AMPS-co-AA) coated iron oxide clusters at various concentration of NaCl is provided as zeta potential measured using a Brookhaven ZetaPALS instrument and fit to the Oshima model. These data are presented in Bagaria et al., 2013, Langmuir, 29, 3195 dx.doi.org/10.1021/la304496a.
