资源简介:
Water buffalo is one of the important resources of milk supply in southwest of China. Characterized by its high nutritional values and favorable flavor, buffalo milk is attracting increasing number of consumers. However, indigenous Chinese buffalo is typical swamp buffalo with low milk production and cannot meet the increasing market demand for buffalo milk. Hybridization of swamp buffaloes with river buffaloes that have excellent milk performance is one the most common strategies adopted for the improvement of this economical trait. In the meantime, dentification of genetic variants in the whole buffalo genome that closely related to milk performance trait will be of great help for buffalo-breeding programs. In this project, we performed double digest restriction-site associated DNA (dd-RAD) sequencing for genome-wide discovery of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in two populations that have extreme differences in milk production trait, the swamp-type Chinese buffalo and the river-type Egyptian buffalo and aimed to identify SNPs associated with high milk production trait.
